33 Raptor engines: a thing of beauty

Happy Thanksgiving!

If you’re in the U.S., then you’re probably up to your eyeballs getting ready for feasting and family, so this’ll be short.

I was in Vegas for a conference the week before the Formula 1 race, and had a great time hanging out with my publisher, Aethon Books, as well as some fantastic authors. You might have heard of them: Rachel Aukes, Scott Moon, Rick Partlow, Terry Mixon, Richard Fox, and the two Jeffs (Haskell and Chaney), to name a few.

Since my return, I’ve spent a lot of time stuck inside, thanks to rainy weather (also known as “good writing weather”). The tree outside my studio has been keeping me company, showing off with a brilliant display of orange-red leaves. When the sun shines, it looks like it’s glowing.

Speaking of fireballs, (how’s that for a segue?) did you catch the Starship launch this past Saturday? Holy smokes, those Raptor engines are a thing of beauty.

Starship officially made it to space—148 kilometers—before the flight termination system was automatically triggered when Ship 25 experienced a fault. Though it didn’t make it to Hawaii, this second launch is considered a success on many levels.

As a NASA brat, this is the stuff of dreams. Plus, I mean… thirty-three Raptor engines. As Tim Allen would say, “more POWER!”

Book Update

I’m on track to complete Kata Storm by the end of the year. Then on to 2024, which is going to be jam-packed. Both the Oniki Initiative series and RIFT are set to publish next year, and I’ve already begun on RIFT’s sequel, tentatively called SPLINTER.

I’m also working on a secret project that I look forward to sharing with you, once the details are ironed out.

Speaking of RIFT, we’re almost ready to set a pre-order date (finally). The cover is still TBD, but in my spare time I played around with ideas to share with the cover artist, and came up with these.

As soon as the pre-order goes live, I’ll share the link.
By the way, if you were wondering, my position on AI (and that of my publisher) is that no AI will ever be used to create my stories.
